How to rewind a mistake and speed up a GBA emulator
Tap Rewind in iGBA's pause menu and you jump about 10.5 seconds back — enough to undo most ordinary mistakes. To go faster instead, hold Fast Forward, or pick a speed from 0.5x to 4x that stays on while you play.
When rewind and speed help
Rewind is for the small disasters — a missed jump, the wrong menu option, a battle you walked straight into. No save state needed from just before it.
Speed is for the long, boring stretches: trudging back across a map, grinding a battle for the fifth time, text you've already read twice. Going the other way, down to 0.5x, actually helps on a section with tight timing, such as a jumping puzzle.
How to rewind in iGBA
- Play normally; iGBA keeps a snapshot every 1.5 seconds in the background.
- When something goes wrong, open the pause menu.
- Tap Rewind. The game jumps back about 10.5 seconds.
- Tap it again if you need to go further back.
| Value | Result |
|---|---|
| Snapshot interval | 1.5 seconds |
| Distance per press | 10.5 seconds (7 snapshots) |
| History kept | 33 seconds (22 snapshots) |
| Full jumps in a row | 3 |
Free users get 3 rewinds a day. Burn through them and the app shows Out of free rewinds for today, with a rewarded ad for 24 hours of unlimited rewind, or Pro for good.
How to fast forward in iGBA
Fast Forward on the game screen only runs faster while you're holding it down, finger or controller button. Let go and it's back to normal. A tap instead of a hold cycles to the next fast-forward speed, no need to leave the game.
Set which speeds it cycles through in Settings, under Performance: 2x, 3x or 4x, 4x by default. All three are free for everyone, no catch.
How to change the game speed permanently
- Open Settings and tap Performance.
- In the speed section, choose the current speed: 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 2.5x, 3x or 4x.
- During play, use the speed slider in the pause menu to change it on the fly.
1x, 1.5x and 2x are free. Pick 0.5x, 2.5x, 3x or 4x and you'll see a lock, with Watch Ad for Premium Speeds opening them for 24 hours, or Pro for good. Sound follows the speed — it gets noticeably squeakier the faster you go.
How much time does a faster speed save?
The math is just normal time divided by speed. Take a grinding session that eats 40 minutes at 1x:
| Speed | Real time (minutes) |
|---|---|
| 0.5x | 80 |
| 1x | 40 |
| 1.5x | 26.67 |
| 2x | 20 |
| 2.5x | 16 |
| 3x | 13.33 |
| 4x | 10 |
Common mistakes
- Leaving a high speed on after grinding and then entering a hard section: set the speed back to 1x or just use the hold button next time.
- Expecting rewind to replace saving: 33 seconds is a safety net, not a save.
- Using fast forward on an older device: if the game stutters, try the frame skip setting in Performance.
